In conjunction with our school-wide Pennies for Patients collection through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, classes have been learning about the cancer disease and the children we are helping with our donations. Grades K-2 are learning the difference between contagious and non-contagious illnesses. They are then hearing a story about a boy who has Leukemia in the book, “I Have Cancer” by Joan Sam and discussing how our donations can help kids with cancer. Students then write about the ways they can find more money to donate. Students in Grades 3-5 are working in their Tribes to research cancer and brainstorm ways to educate the younger students on their findings and motivate them to donate to Pennies for Patients. Tribes have been creating PA announcements, powerpoint presentations and posters.
