March Media Literacy

This month students in grades k-1, and 3- 5 will develop their computer science skills in coding/programming. The students had an exciting time participating in the “Hour of Code,” and now they get a chance to delve deeper into basic programming. App use will vary across the grades:

K-1 PBS Kids Scratch Jr./Kodable

3-4 Code Studio (

 5- Code Studio/Scratch

Grade 2 will be transitioning from their Ipads to laptops.  This month not only will they participate in a keyboarding bootcamp where they develop their typing skills, but they will also take part in a special research project exploring how architecture and transportation  has developed from past to present in accordance with the Grade 2 NYC Over Time Museum.

** NEW: PBS Scratch Jr.- With PBS KIDS Scratch Jr., students will create their own interactive stories and games featuring their favorite characters from Wild Kratts, Nature Cat, WordGirl and Peg + Cat. The students can make characters move, jump, dance and sing. In the process, kids will learn to solve problems, design projects and express themselves creatively.
