Our future programmers of tomorrow have been learning about the basics of computer science through the NYCDOE’s Pilot initiative CS4All. They have explored topics such as algorithms, and loops and have seen real world applications. Today, students explored the idea of “debugging” which goes hand in hand with the habit of mind of persisting through challenges. Students were given a limited amount of materials to build a foundation that was sturdy enough to balance a notebook by using gumdrops and toothpicks. Through this engaging hands on activity, students were able to apply the good old saying of “try, try again.” They sketched what their model would look like, tried it out, then worked on problem solving structural issues. We are so proud of our student teams and how they “persisted” through challenges together.
