Welcome to the Fun Zone of Learning – Movement and Health! November 2016

Dear Families,

In 1st grade and 2nd grade students will continue to learn basic health concepts and hygiene skills. Students will be introduced to the hygiene aspect of germ fighting technique. They will discover that when it comes to germs, nothing spreads them faster than our two hands. Our goal is to emphasize the importance of hand washing for everyone in the family, particularly for kids who think nothing of sneezing into their hands, then reaching into the cookie jar. In addition, students will learn that it’s all about technique- forget the hand sanitizers or those antibacterial soaps for beating germs (you don’t want to kill all germs; some are beneficial and necessary for maintaining a healthy immune system). A good old-fashioned hand washing with plain soap and warm water will do the trick. Hands should be thoroughly lathered, rubbed, and rinsed for at least 20 seconds (one verse of the “Happy Birthday” song is a good measure), then thoroughly dried on a clean, dry towel. Also your child should understand the importance to keep his/her hands out of his mouth and nose. Nail biting and nose picking are not only unsightly they’re also very unsanitary. We will continue to learn about the importance to be active by participating in deferent motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Some examples of activities that build this skill include demonstrations, communication, partner work, group discussions, and role-playing.

*Please have your child wear comfortable clothes and sneakers!

Thank you!

Truly Yours,

Mrs. Glotova
