It’s extremely important to engage students in quality fun activities for their own benefit, so please help us by encouraging your children to be physically active outside of school as well.
Kindergarten In kindergarten, students will work on cooperative games and station like activities to help improve teamwork, student’s hand eye coordination, and muscular strength. Warm up part that includes children’s yoga and endurance exercises that foster flexibility, cardiovascular, abdominal and muscular strength. In the middle of January we’ll begin a new unit that includes Fitness gram test activities. We incorporate the use of fitness gram components into the above stated activities to further improve their cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility.
1st Grade In January we’ll begin Fitness Gram testing. We incorporate the use of fitness gram components into relay race activities, obstacle course activities and teamwork building games to further improve their cardiovascular endurance, strength, and flexibility. Children will participate in yoga and endurance exercises that foster flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, and body composition.
2nd – 3rdGrade The second and third grade Fitness Gram test is an introduction and a preparation to the health-related components of fitness. These components include cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition. The students learn the proper way to perform exercises that improve their strength and muscular endurance, their cardiovascular endurance and flexibility as well. When performing these exercises, the students are also taught the muscles being used for each different exercise. Some type of strength training is incorporated into each and every lesson throughout the unit. These components are important in staying healthy and helping to reduce the risk of many diseases such as diabetes, certain types of cancers and heart disease.
4th – 5th Grade This January we’ll begin Fitness gram components testing incorporated into relay race activities, games, obstacle course activities, and testing drills. These components include cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition. Fitness gram can be used by students to help them in personal fitness program planning, by teachers to determine student needs and to help guide students in program planning. For each of the areas of fitness, a test is performed by each student to determine their strength in each component.
