Horrific Acts of Violence in Texas

May 25, 2022

Dear TAOTS Families,

I am deeply saddened and shocked to be writing in response to yesterday’s horrific news of a school shooting at an elementary school in Texas. I have no words to fully express how I am feeling as an educator in charge of a school building and mother of three children.

In addition to this tragedy, in just over a week, we were confronted with news of a racist supermarket attack in Buffalo, New York, a murder on our subway system and we are remined of the daily pain and suffering in Ukraine. As a society we continue to face challenges beyond the imaginable.

In the wake of these tragedies, I want to take a moment to remind you that safety is of the utmost importance to me and the other administrators in our school building.  We are a campus made up of three schools, and, together, we conduct periodic fire and lock-down drills to ensure that we are prepared to respond to an emergency situation.  My Assistant Principals and I meet monthly with the other administrators to reflect on, and discuss, safety-related issues.  Although we hope that we are never faced with an emergency situation, the team of educators that work in our building go to great lengths to ensure that we are prepared to protect our students.

We have received DOE resources that we have shared with our staff  so that we are prepared to engage in age-appropriate discussions that may surface in the coming days.

I am committed to my school community and will continue to the best of my ability to provide a safe school for our students.  I love each of my students as if they were my own!

I wish you all a peaceful week.

XO….
