Dear Parents,

I would like to introduce myself as the new art teacher at TAOTS. My name is Amy Cheng and I will be teaching art to grades K-5. I have my Bachelors in Art Education K-12 and my Masters in Fine Arts. I am beyond excited and honored to teach at this amazing school. The first week of school has been getting to know your child and their interests in the arts. When the students express their thoughts, I can truly understand them and will be able to integrate their interests while making learning fun. I can’t wait to incorporate their interests into Art and Art history working with varies mediums and inspiring each other as a team to be creative. Students from K-4 will meet with me once a week exploring the creativity of Art and Art History and 5th grade will have an extra class of Art History as well.

All students will have the opportunity to learn about various artists in different movements from simplistic to challenging forms. Kindergarten students will learn about various lines and shapes in the class. This will allow students to make connections to other academic classes. We will work with different mediums and texture by learning the basics of different materials. Students will be able to gain a self-expression through their imagination within art. Students will also be able to learn about techniques from famous artists and talk about the style it offers. All of our lessons are aligned with academic subjects such as Math, ELA, Science, and History by using measurements and perspectives, studying animals, geography, and vocabulary.

First grade through fifth grade will learn about various artists and art history in different degrees. We will learn about how art started form the Stone Age, Roman, High Renaissance, Impressionism, Cubism, Expressionism all the way to Contemporary Art! We will be learning about various artists and mediums such as drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and printmaking. Students will be able to work as a team to create masterpieces together. They will also have the opportunity to be in galleries and shows for others to value their work as well. We will be able to master our skills together by learning from one another.

I am looking forward to teaching all students at TAOTS and getting to know them as they progress. I can’t wait to start this journey with you and meet you all! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to send me an email at acheng@taots.org.

Sincerely,
Ms. Cheng
